Third Heartland gala honors three area innovators

3 images of institutions whose leaders we will honor

Dental care, social work, psychiatric services, nursing care and language interpretation services underpin our care but are not reimbursable by Medicaid and Medicare or only partially covered by public sources.

In 2016, a group of volunteers came together to help us organize the From the Heart Gala to help cover this gap. This significant new source of revenue has helped stretch our public dollars and galvanized support for access to quality care on the North Side.

We hope you can join us! This year we are honoring three innovators:

Kimberly M. Foxx | Cook County State’s Attorney

Kimberly M. Foxx is the first African American woman to lead the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office – the second largest prosecutor’s office in the country. Kim took office on December 1, 2016 with a vision for transforming the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office into a fairer, more forward-thinking agency focused on rebuilding the public trust, promoting transparency, and being proactive in making all communities safe.

Mark Ishaug | CEO, Thresholds

Mark Ishaug is CEO of Thresholds, one of the oldest and largest providers of behavioral health services in Illinois. Under his leadership, Thresholds offers 30 innovative programs at more than 90 locations in the greater Chicago area providing psychiatry, primary care and substance use services, including housing, educational and employment opportunities, to more than 9,000 adults and youth.

In 2016, HHC and Thresholds forged a partnership to create a comprehensive health home with co-located mental health and physical health care services all under one roof.  This pioneering site is a model for seamless integration and optimum client care.

Melanie Ginn | President & CEO, Ginn Group Consulting & Architect of the SMART™ Model

Since 2005, Melanie Ginn’s niche has been health care system transformation, uniting business principles, culture, and innovation to fuel proactive models that support academic achievement through population health management strategies.

She is the architect and project director for a CVS-funded, groundbreaking pilot project, now known as SMART™, a school health solution dedicated to improving academic achievement by breaking the cycle of poverty, through active access to health care. Heartland Health Centers’ Sullivan High School clinic is the site of the SMART pilot.
