Thank you to everyone who has attended our Taste of Global Cuisine events to learn healthful cooking tips and tricks from the world’s great cuisines as cooked by your neighbors!
The last of four cooking classes is this Saturday June 1 in partnership with Swedish Covenant’s Spring Into Health campaign.
Heartland Health Centers offers regular nutrition classes to patients. We invite the community in to join us by watching a different local chef prepare a dish from their own cultures: Middle Eastern, West African, Latin American and Southeast Asian.
Besides watching and learning, neighbors will get a quick lesson about what makes each recipe super healthy, and then, of course, the tasting begins — of course the proof will be in the eating!
Here are the details:
- 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1: Southeast Asian (featuring Chef Siyin Duong). Southeast Asian cooking demonstration and tasting. Cambodian Association of Illinois, 2831 W. Lawrence Ave.
Previous classes included the following:
- 11:30 a.m. Saturday May 11: Middle Eastern (Chef Meelak). Chef Meelak cooks. At HHC–Albany Park, 3737 W. Lawrence Ave.
- 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18: West African (Vee-Vee’s). Chefs ChiChi and Vivian Ezeji, owners of Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant, share tips and tastes of West-African cuisine. Friendship Center, 2711 W. Lawrence Ave.
- 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25: Latin American (Tortuga’s Latin Kitchen). Led by Chef Jairo Lopez at the restaurant he owns. Tortuga’s Latin Kitchen, 3224 W. Lawrence Ave.
As they say on TV – but wait, there’s more! Our taste of global cuisine events are offered as part of Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Summer of Wellness, which culminates on Sunday, June 2 with a Summer Social. Check out the details and we hope to see you this weekend, twice!
