Say “Yes” to the Flu Shot!

Autumn is the beginning of flu season.

Flu-Season-Get-ShotsPlease consider getting the flu shot this year.  While most healthy people recover from the flu in a couple of weeks, the flu shot helps all of us to protect those who are most vulnerable to serious illness from this disease.

If you have a young persons or an old person in your life, or anyone with asthma, you getting the flu shot can help protect them from serious illness, including hospitalization or death.

According to the CDC, 71-85% of flu related deaths occur in people over the age of 65. Children under the age of 5, and especially those age two and under are at particular risk.  The CDC Estimates every year in the US 20,000 children under the age of 5 are hospitalized for the flu.

Children under the age of 6 months, are too young for the vaccine, and so rely on all of us to be flu free for their protection. And while those with asthma are not at higher risk for getting the flu, they are at greater risk for significant problems breathing if they were to get the flu.

So, please consider saying, “Yes” to the flu shot this year for your loved ones and patients that you care for, so much.
