Heartland Health Centers staged its 2nd community event in the last three weeks with the Grand Opening of our newest site at 3737 W. Lawrence in Albany Park.
Despite mid ‘90’s weather, about 150 community residents turned out to help us celebrate. Similar to the Wilson Open House on May 21, this event offered activities for all ages, a fine variety of dishes from local restaurants and a raffle with 12 different prizes to pick from, including a kids’ bike! But two very special things occurred on Saturday.
First was the official Ribbon Cutting, done by our site manager Maria Paredes, a long time Albany Park resident, with brief remarks from site leader Dr. Tim Buckley and our CEO Gwenn Rausch, as well as 35th Ward Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa. Among the other community leaders in attendance were 40th District State Rep Jaime Andrade and Catalina Landivar, the Vice- Counsel of Ecuador. With a satellite office a few blocks from our health center, the Consulate has a very prominent presence in the heart of Albany Park. Capping the afternoon was live music was by local group ¡ESSO! AfroJam Funkbeat, and a delightful performance by a young girl’s dance group from the Cambodian Association of Illinois.
